COLUMBUS - State Senator Tim Grendell (R-Chesterland) is pleased to announce that SB 17 was passed with overwhelming support in the Ohio House. Subsequently, the members of the Senate voted unanimously to send the bill to the Governor for his signature. PLEASE SUPPORT SENATE BILL 17

SB 17 was created out of a need for stricter laws for repeat drunk drivers. This bill will force repeat offenders to undergo earlier intervention programs, car immobilization, longer suspensions and alcohol monitoring. It also addresses the “enablers” who provide vehicles to those with suspended licenses to take some responsibility for their actions. They must prove that they did not know the offender had a suspended license. In those cases where there is a clear pattern of an “enabler” providing a vehicle, their vehicles can also be immobilized. The alcohol-monitoring device is worn by the offender and will notify the state if they have consumed any alcohol and violated probation. The Department of Public Safety will establish a state registry of Ohio’s habitual OVI offenders who have 5 or more arrests in Ohio within 20 years. This makes the information readily accessible to courts for sentencing purposes.

Please join us in supporting SB17. It has passed the Senate unanimously. Call, write, or email your representative in the House of Representatives and tell them you support this bill and you want them to represent you and vote “yes” when it comes before them.

To find your representative go to www.legislature.state.oh.us.

Click on "Locating Legislators" to find your representative in the House.

Thank you.

Dear friends and supporters,

Because of your wonderful generosity, we have been able to work with The Cleveland Foundation to establish two memorial funds. These funds are set up to be “in perpetuity”, which means they will be honoring Grace and Andy for many years to come.

Hiram College students will continue to remember Grace and Andy for their pursuit of knowledge and their love of life.

The Grace and Andy Fund is a designated fund, which is a permanent endowment fund that provides annual awards to Hiram College for scholarship support. Hiram College will select the scholarship recipients.

The Grace J. Chamberlain Memorial Fund is a donor advised fund. We will work with Hiram College and their grant recommendations to select the fund recipient. It may be for scholarship support or it may be to fulfill a need that Hiram College will present to us.

We will continue to raise funds to increase the annual awards and will post updates here on our website. Any contributions made to the Cleveland Foundation for these funds may be tax deductible for the donor. We thank you so much for helping us to participate in something that will be a positive reminder of two wonderful young lives.

A memorial bench that has been installed at the North Chagrin Reservation of Cleveland Metroparks.  It is on a trail called,"Foster's Run", which is fairly new and not named on the map, but it is at the Wilson Mills entrance at the bottom of the map.  It is a little way up the hill overlooking a waterfall.
